Do you specialize in weddings?

You want to make sure your photographer is familiar with weddings, and working with large groups of people while balancing a timeline of your wedding day.

Describe your style with three words?

This is important because you may have your heart set on sunlit, romantic, editorial images. You need to make sure that you are both on the same page and share a similar vision.

Do you edit all images, or just the ones for the album?

Some photographers will only edit the images for your album, so ask. No need to be disappointed with your images.

Are the photos on your website real weddings or styled shoots?

This is important because there is a difference in working under wedding day timelines, limited time and having a leisure afternoon shoot with models. Having styled shoots are not bad, and a great way to show clients your style. Just ask!

Do you shoot digital or film?

Most photographers shoot digital for weddings and film for special projects. However, film is making its way back into main stream weddings. If you have a preference make sure you discuss this before the wedding.

Do you offer venue or promotional discounts?

Some photographers will offer special promotions for certain venues and or military designation. You may also be available to receive a discount for Friday or Sunday weddings.

Are your packages customizable?

This will allow you to customize your collection, based on your needs. Sometimes, engagement sessions are not necessary. Some photographers will not reduce the collection, however they may offer you another service or extra time.

What are your payment terms?

Find out the bottom line number for your wedding photography, and then ask what payment options they offer. Some photographers offer 50% down payment, some are 25% and pre-determined payment plans. So ask, so you know.

Will you be my actual photographer, or will it be one of your associates?

Make sure you are clear who the photographer will be at your wedding. Make sure it is in the contract as well.

When will the photos be ready?

Understand the terms in which your photographer will deliver your photographs. This is dramatically different per photographer. For example mine is 3-4 weeks and other photographers can take up to three months.

How many weddings do you do a weekend?

Make sure that only schedule one wedding per day.

Have you ever shot at my venue(s) before?

This is great to know that your photographer has shot at your venue. However, it doesn’t make it a clear choice, because a talented experienced photographer can work at a venue without prior knowledge of the venue. If they worked there before, ask to see a gallery. This will allow to see how they interpreted the venue.

What will you wear?

This may not seem important, however if you are a having a black tie wedding. You may want to inform the photographer, so he or she doesn’t feel out of place.

I really hope these questions help you chose an awesome talented photographer for your wedding! CONGRATULATIONS!
